Bringing the Outdoors In: Residents Create Wooden Sculptures Inspired by Doug Cocker

Over the past few weeks, our residents have been getting hands-on with a creative new workshop series led by artist Sam, exploring the art of wooden sculpture. The sessions have taken inspiration from renowned Scottish sculptor Doug Cocker, whose work reimagines everyday objects in abstract and beautifully crafted ways. You can view some of his fascinating pieces here:

Our residents have embraced the challenge wholeheartedly, working with wood to express the theme: “What we love about being outside.” Their creations reflect memories, feelings, and the simple joys of nature – all reinterpreted through unique and imaginative designs. We’ve seen some truly brilliant pieces take shape, each one a testament to our residents’ creativity and personal connection to the natural world.

As part of the final sculpture, we’ll also be incorporating quotes from residents, bringing their voices directly into the piece:

• “You can do more than you imagine.”

• “It might mean something to you when you’re doing it, but then it might mean something even more to someone else looking at it.”

• “You remember the flowers, you remember the person, you remember the reason.”

We’re incredibly proud of what’s being created and can’t wait to share the final artwork with everyone. It’s a beautiful reminder of the stories, reflections, and talents within our community – and how art can connect us all.
